10 downsides of buying second hand (or how to make thrift shopping a success)

10 downsides of buying second hand (or how to make thrift shopping a success)

You may know that I love to buy most of my stuff second hand. I love doing that. When you buy something second hand you pay so much less than when you buy things new. I also love the fact that items  had a previous life and that they show some character. An item you buy second hand is even  more unique than a store bought one. But there are downsides about buying everything second hand. I still don’t think they are as big as the cons but they are there and they are really  important to take in to consideration. Plus if you know about the downsides you are more likely to make thrift shopping a success!

Latest thrift store finds!

thrift store find singer sewing machine

I want to share some of my latest thrift store finds today. Some days ago I bought this amazing vintage Singer sewing machine in the thrift store. It wasn’t really working, but I fixed it! At least for now. I hope it won’t stop working again! It’s a sewing machine on a small cabinet. You can put the machine inside the cabinet (by turning the sewing machine upside down). The cabinet is not in a really good shape so I may have to paint it. But I love this sewing machine! It will get a nice place in my new craft room.

thrift store find vintage fabric

Today there was a flea market in the city. I went strait for the fabric. I found a lot of amazing fabrics. I’m so happy! I also bought a really big wicker basket. It’s 50 cm high, 55 cm wide and 85 cm long. I wanted one for a long time. I want to use it in the future for dress up clothes for kids. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

Tomorrow we will go to the same flea market because they will open the furniture section. I want a cabinet for the nursery. So we will see what we find! XO Wilma

Latest thrift store find: buttons!

Latest thriftstore find - Vintage buttons in jars

Ever since I was a little girl I really love buttons. When I was little my mother had a jar full of buttons that I loved to play with. Today I have jars of my own. One jar is unfortunately still missing after I moved in with my boyfriend last year. I don’t think I will ever have enough buttons. They are like a little addiction. They are so small and pretty… I just can’t have enough of them. Yesterday I found two jars filled with all kinds of vintage buttons at the thrift store. I just had to take them home with me. Aren’t they pretty?

thrift store find alarm clock

I love visiting thrift stores. I never leave empty handed, there is always something I just need to have. Well, at least that is what I think the moment I buy it. But hey, it’s so damn cheap. Who can blame me? Today I wanted to show you some of my latest finds.

The picture above is a vintage alarm clock I bought for two Euro’s. My boyfriend found it. I love the style of the clock and it’s in perfect working condition. Only problem is; we don’t have a working socket in our bedroom at the moment. Don’t know why it doesn’t work and I’m not really into fixing it. So we save this find (and our nightlights) for our next home.
