Thrift store find: 70's craft books with lots of Macrame!

Vintage craft books with macrame tutorials! Vintage craft books with macrame tutorials!

A few days ago I showed you a few of my favorite macrame wall art pieces on Etsy. I also told you that I would love to learn some macrame. Well, I found some great 70’s craft books at the thrift store! Oh, I love those old fashioned books…

The first book (the orange one) features LOTS of different crafts. Macrame is just one of them. But it was the first one I found and I love all the inspiration I get out of this book. I’m definitely going to look for more vintage craft books in the thrift stores from now one!

I didn’t had the time to really read the books at the thrift store, so I just took a quick look inside and decide based on that if I took the books home or not. The second book had because of that a little surprise. It looked if halfway the book there was a complete second book about macrame. It had it’s own front page, it’s own table of contents and so on. There are many tutorials on the macrame basics plus some great projects (like the wall hanging above). I love this book the most of the two!

Don’t you just love those old fashioned pictures and crafts? XO Wilma

Although my house is already filled with the nicest thrift store finds, I can not resist to keep looking. We continue to look for unique items. Here in Sneek we have a new store called ‘Mijn Tafel’. Here you can rent a table and the owners of the shop sell your stuff. The money goes to the you. What’s nice about this is that there is some really good stuff to be found and it’s mostly in pretty good condition. I already found quite a number of clothes for Rens in mint condition and Tom found a box full of Lego for only 25 Euros.

But outside of new things they also have the cute vintage stuff. Such as the teapot and kettle above. And what about the clock? We were looking for a clock for the living room and this one is just perfect!

I found this super cute retro garage at our favorite thrift store. I know Rens is not nearly ready to play with it, but I just couldn’t leave it there!

I currently have a weakness for pretty things for Rens, like toys and clothes, and vintage kitchen stuff. What are the items you have a soft spot for when you go shopping at thrift store? XO Wilma

thrif store finds fabric and teatowel

I made a quick stop by the thrift store today. Just to see if they have anything new and amazing for me. I also needed some small baskets for a project that I will be sharing with you soon. Of course they had all kind of amazing new things. I found two vintage mermaid tea towels. They are so cute! The blouse I bought just for the fabric. I love the fabric but the model really isn’t my kind of thing.

10 downsides of buying second hand (or how to make thrift shopping a success)

10 downsides of buying second hand (or how to make thrift shopping a success)

You may know that I love to buy most of my stuff second hand. I love doing that. When you buy something second hand you pay so much less than when you buy things new. I also love the fact that items  had a previous life and that they show some character. An item you buy second hand is even  more unique than a store bought one. But there are downsides about buying everything second hand. I still don’t think they are as big as the cons but they are there and they are really  important to take in to consideration. Plus if you know about the downsides you are more likely to make thrift shopping a success!

thrift store find singer sewing machine

I want to share some of my latest thrift store finds today. Some days ago I bought this amazing vintage Singer sewing machine in the thrift store. It wasn’t really working, but I fixed it! At least for now. I hope it won’t stop working again! It’s a sewing machine on a small cabinet. You can put the machine inside the cabinet (by turning the sewing machine upside down). The cabinet is not in a really good shape so I may have to paint it. But I love this sewing machine! It will get a nice place in my new craft room.

thrift store find vintage fabric

Today there was a flea market in the city. I went strait for the fabric. I found a lot of amazing fabrics. I’m so happy! I also bought a really big wicker basket. It’s 50 cm high, 55 cm wide and 85 cm long. I wanted one for a long time. I want to use it in the future for dress up clothes for kids. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

Tomorrow we will go to the same flea market because they will open the furniture section. I want a cabinet for the nursery. So we will see what we find! XO Wilma

Thrift store find: lockers!

thrift store find: lockers

I bought three of these amazing lockers today for my craft/work space. They need a little bit of love and paint but I think they will look amazing! I (read my boyfriend) is going to paint them white and we will put some shelves in them. I think they will work really well for my work space because I can also use them as memo boards! Of course I will show you the end results when they are ready.

I love them but what do you think? Aren’t they pretty? XO Wilma
