DIY – How to protect and whiten your wooden table

DIY - How to protect and whiten your wooden table @ By Wilma

My dining table is something I will never trow away. It was a gift from my parents and I absolutely love this table. I have it now for 3 or 4 years and it already has had three different looks. It was painted grey when I got it. When I moved in with my boyfriend the table didn’t really fit into our home. So we used it as a desk in stead of a dining table. We painted the table white at that point. Now we are in our new home and the table is back in the kitchen. Because I don’t really like paint on top of my table (it stains so easily) I decided to remove all the paint. I love a wooden table that is lived on! We wanted to keep the wood of the table light so we tried store bought stain. It was terrible. Then we tried beeswax. Better, but we’ve got water damage right away. I didn’t want to spent to much money so I decided to try google. I found a perfect recipe for table oil (which I then chainged a little). Plus I defeloped a simple technique to whiten your table.

About moving

wallpaper

I love our new home. It’s so light and spacious. Two things that are so different from our last home. I also love the big garden and the nice neighborhood. We have to do a lot in the garden before I can say it’s pretty. Right now almost everything is paved. I want to add some grass and of course flowers! I also want a patio, that would be great with the rainy weather here in the Netherlands. But for now we are still very busy inside. The last residents were living here since 1965 and were heavy smokers so you can imagine that there is a lot to do here. One of the rooms had 6 layers of wallpaper. I kept a piece of all of them. I really love the one above. I’m going to try to find a roll of that one. That would be so great!

dime and john moving

The cats were not amused by the move. John, the grey one, doesn’t really care about the new home but he does about not being able to go outside. Dime spent his first day lying under the couch. The poor thing. Now he is sleeping at his, and Johns, new favorite spot: the window-sill. They will be alright, it just needs some time..

In the middle of moving

moving

I’m in the middle of moving right now. We have to do so much! We are the second occupants of this house. The people who lived here before us have been there for 47 years! And they were smokers. Heavy smokers. So the living room and kitchen were yellow. Dark, disgusting yellow. There are four different types of floors downstairs and five on the first floor. So every room has it’s own floor. From all the nine floors I like one. So we have to do a lot! But it doesn’t matter. Because the house is fantastic! It has a large garden and it’s a really nice neighborhood. We have room for everything we want. I think we are going to have a really good time here!

The next busy weeks I will try to post as much as possible but I may have to skip a few days. I hope you understand! XO Wilma

Moving on…

moving on boxes

When I moved to the apartment I’m living right now, my boyfriend was already living here. I came from a much bigger home that was from my parents and was for sale for a few years. Because they had moved already I was living there on my own. I collected a lot of stuff around me in that big house. When I had to move I really didn’t know where to go with all that stuff. A lot of it is here, in this way to small apartment, and the rest of it is at my parents home. I never really felt completely at home here. It’s just to small and because my boyfriend already lived here it never felt like it was really mine. But now that is going to change. Because we are moving out to a bigger home!

DIY – Inspirational quote sign

DIY - Inspirational quot sign. "Excuse the Mess... The children are making memories." How to make a sign with an inspirational quote for just a few dollars! A very easy technique @ By Wilma

My best friend has always a lot of kids over at her home. She has one of her own and she is babysitting for a living. This makes that her house is never completely tidy. But who cares? The kids should be able to play, don’t they? So when she saw the quote ‘Excuse the mess, the children are making memories’ she decided it had to be on her wall. Of course I had my ideas on how to make the sign. We went to the thrift store and purchased the tabletop of a small table. Perfect for this project because it already had the desired shape! You can make a sign like this for just a few dollars, or with things you already have lying around in your home!
