DIY – Lace candle holder
I love candles and candle holders. They are what you call in Dutch ‘gezellig’ (cosy). The simple glass ones are really cheap and you can find a lot of them in thrift stores. These lace candle holders are made with those candle holders but you can use small drink glasses for this project to!

What you need
- Glass candle holder
- Lace fabric
- Mod Podge
- Brush
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
How you make it
Measure the glass candle holder all around and cut the lace. To be sure you can leave the lace a little bit bigger then you need, you can always cut off the excess. Now use the brush to cover the glass in Mod Podge. Place the lace over the glass and cover with another layer of Mod Podge. Let dry and cut the excess lace.

I really like the look of this, but I have question. If you wash or soak the glass (to get out the old wax), will the lace come off the glass? Does the Mod Podge make it waterproof?
Hi Cheryl.
The mod podge is not waterproof and will come off if you wash it.
My version isn’t waterproof. But if you use modpodge for outside it should be.
A person could clean the inside without immersing it in water, or also use a clear glass or coordinating color votive cup inside:) I clean the inside of my glass candle holders with pure dish soap (Dawn), then rinse and wipe. Works well, especially for those that are embellished.
PS: The dish soap seems to “dissove” the wax. I only burn soy candles though.
Try putting it in the freezer for a few hours & the wax will pop out of the glass.
That’s a great tip! Thank you!
very pretty!
Thank you Ellen!

Love the candle holder. Looks really chic to me and would be a nice party decor or even in my room! Thanks!

Heads up ladies, you can find cheap glass vases and candle holders at DollarTree. I used the 3″ square candle holders from there as small vases at my wedding
Thank you for the tip Kimberly!

Loooooove your site! So many original ideas!!! Keep on inspiring!
I was wondering if I were to use the candle holder as an actual burning candle would it make the glue warm enough to let the lace/fabric come off?
